The Common Lilac was first published on June 1, 1792 by William Curtis in Volume 6 of The Botanical Magazine and was reissued in 1793. The Common Lilac’s popularity in landscaping around the world has made this print tremendously popular.

Natural Selection’s lithograph reproduction of the Common Lilac was created from high resolution scans of the original art and is printed on the finest paper to recreate the quality of the original copper engravings and hand coloring. Each print is accompanied by a copy of the text from the original publication.

The Common Lilac is native to the Balkan Peninsula in southeastern Europe and were introduced to European gardens at the end of the sixteenth century from Ottoman gardens.
