Software Questions

Q: After installing other software, my Natural Selections program no longer works. Why?
A: This is most often caused by other programs inadvertantly installing older device drivers during installation. This can usually be resolved using these steps: 1. Make sure you have the most recent critical updates from Microsoft for your operating system. 2. Uninstall Birds of North America & Hawaii by running Uninstall.exe found on the CD. 3. Reinstall the program.

Q: Why do I get an error message regarding out of date "ocx" or "dll" files when I try to run the program?
A: Like the previous question, this is most often caused by out of date system files installed on your system. This can usually be resolved using these steps: 1. Make sure you have the most recent critical updates from Microsoft for your operating system. 2. Uninstall Birds of North America & Hawaii by running Uninstall.exe found on the CD. 3. Q: Why is the picture quality poor?
A: Most likely your color settings are set too low. Go to the control panel, select "Display" and on the "Settings" tab change your color depth to True Color (24-bit).

Q: Why doesn't the sound work properly?
A: During installation you had the option of installing the Active Movie device driver if it was not already installed on your machine. If you didn't choose to do so during installation, you can install this manually by running Amovie.exe found on the CD in the Amovie folder. If this does not solve the problem, make sure your volume settings are set properly.

Q: How do I uninstall this program?
A: This can easily be done by running Uninstall.exe, which can be found on the Birds of North America & Hawaii installation CD.

Q: Why does choosing a large number of images for the included screen saver cause the program to shut down?
A: This problem has been reported with older versions of Windows 95. Make sure you have the latest critical updates from Microsoft installed on your system.

Q: I'm using Windows XP, why does my program behave poorly?
A: In order to use the full functionality of Botanical Images, Volume I on Windows XP, you must download and install an update, which can be found here.
